Adventure for the Disabled by Guy Cole
The speaker contracted infantile paralysis when he was fourteen months old and the disease left him completely paralysed in both legs. In spite of this he offered to help to sail the 31-foot yacht Galway Blazer from England to America and in 1949 he and the owner, Commander Bill King, accomplished the passage together.
Arriving on the other side with very little money, he was able to maintain himself by a variety of jobs for the best part of two years.

The play was first produced at the Old Vic Theatre on February 4, 1936.
St. Helena was based entirely upon the diaries and other published accounts of those on the island at the time of Napoleon's captivity. Nothing was invented. It was the first play by modern writers to be produced at the Old Vic. Possibly on this account it received very poor support in its opening performances and the house was almost empty. It happened that Mr. Winston Churchill went to see the play upon one of these early nights and as a result of his visit he wrote a letter to The Times which produced a queue that same evening outside the theatre. For at least two months the Old Vic was filled to capacity. Then Miss Lilian Baylis felt that it was against the policy of the theatre to run a play for a long time, and St. Helena was transferred to Daly's Theatre.
