The story of Bartok's Rhapsody, told with gramophone records, by Spike Hughes
' Contrasts ', a rhapsody for violin, -clarinet, and piano, was composed by Bela Bartok in 1938 especially for one of the greatest straight violinists in the world, Joseph Szigeti , and one of the greatest jazz clarinettists in the world, Benny Good-man. Spike Hughes , who was staying with Szigeti in the south of France in the summer of that year, was present while the commissioned work topk shape.
