G. D. Cunningham has been an organist practically all his life. At the Royal Academy of Music he won the Henry Smart Scholarship for organ-playing, and while studying at the Academy was appointed organist at the West Hampstead Congregational Church. He eventually became organiser to the City of Birmingham.
