A programme of gramophone records, presented by A. Hyatt King
Listeners will remember A. Hyatt King's recent programme of gramophone records on ' Star Variations ' with music by Mozart. This afternoon he is to illustrate the interesting subject of ' Music and Mountains '. Mr. King should speak with considerable authority, as he is both an experienced musician (an authority on Mozart) and a keen mountaineer, having travelled extensively in the Alps and in Greece. Mr. King was educated at Dulwich and Cambridge, taking a degree in classics.

In 1922 he joined the original Queen's Hall Orchestra, and in 1929 he formed the Wynford Reynolds Octet with which he began broadcasting in 1934. His signature tune is 'A Cocktail of Happiness'.

Saint-Saens wrote five piano concertos, all of which were very popular twenty-five years ago. The one that is still retained in the repertoire and still soothes the savage breasts of present-day audiences is the No. 2 in G minor.
It is a facile and brilliant work full of singable melodies which are treated with the utmost clarity.
There is certainly nothing profound about the music, but it is a most effective show-piece for the virtuoso.

Jongen Joseph Jongen , the Belgian composer, was born at Liege in 1873. He studied at the Liege Conservatoire, where he was professor of harmony from 1901-1920, when he went to the Brussels Conservatoire as professor of fugue and counterpoint. After five years he was appointed Principal.
In his early works; written between 1902 and 1914, Jongen is deeply influenced by César Franck, but his later works show him to be one of the most individual of modern composers.
