Those who heard the remarkable broadcast of the Polish Ambassador a few days after the outbreak of war will undoubtedly agree that the case for his noble and unhappy country has never been more poignantly and impressively stated. His appeal this evening is therefore sure to claim the attention of listeners in quite a special degree.

In the year 1840 Helene de Solanges, a rich young aristocrat, was faced with a marriage of convenience with a certain Comte
Horestan de Valiancourt. On the day of her official betrothal ceremony she suddenly plunged into a wild escapade, which upset the calculations of her guardians. It resulted, however, in satisfactory conclusion. In her diary Helene wrote a full account of her indiscretion, which now provides her great-great-grand-daughter with amusement.
