An award-winning French film.

One of the most Inspiring and exciting films to be made in France in the past few years, 'Race For Life', has a theme that is international, and uses a language that is easily understandable in any country in the world. For it tells the simple story of a drama at sea-a drama brought about by a mysterious sickness that strikes down first one and then another of the crew of a small Britanny trawler, fishing two days away from the nearest land, Norway. The Captain sends out radio calls for help, but they are not answered. At least that is how it seems to the crew of the stricken ship. But somewhere in the heart of Africa, a radio amateur picks up the message, and immediately starts a rescue operation that Is to involve most of the countries of Europe....

Kirsten Simone and Henning Kronstam in dances from the Royal Danish Ballet's production of 'La Sylphide' and 'Casse-Noisette'
The Pro Arte Orchestra
(Leader, Antony English)
Conductor, John Lanchbery

Introduced by Peggy van Praagh.

These programmes, Stars of the Ballet, are intended to bring to the television screen stars from ballet companies of different countries. So far England and Sweden have been represented. The two stars of the Royal Danish Ballet who have flown from Copenhagen to dance today are Henning Kronstam, one of the most outstanding male dancers in the world, and Kirsten Simone. They have chosen dances from two ballets in which they both give notable performances-La Sylphide, the story of the Scottish nobleman whose romantic dream of a beautiful Sylphide entices him from his ordinary life, and Tchaikovsky's Casse-Noisette. Peggy van Praagh introduces and interviews the stars.

A cycle of plays on The Life of Our Lord.
Written and produced by Joy Harington

When Caiaphas, the High Priest, learned that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem for the Passover Festival he called a meeting of the Council of the Sanhedrin to decide what was to be done with this 'prophet of Nazareth' who was causing such a disturbance among the people and in the religious life of the country; and although opinion was divided, Caiaphas was convinced of his duty. 'It is to your advantage,' he said to the priests and pharisees, 'that one man should die for the people rather than that a whole nation should perish'.
Meanwhile through wildly cheering crowds Jesus rode into the city.
