The famous French film directed by Julien Duvivier, with Michel Simon and Viviane Romance.
The film is a brilliant example of French production and the final sequence where an innocent man is chased by the crowd is particularly outstanding.

The scene opens in Vienna in the comparative tranquillity of the Eisenstein residence. Complications arise at the ball in Prince Orlofsky's palace, but these are happily disposed of later - in the town gaol!
The general gaiety is interrupted for five-minute entr'actes before and after the ball.

(Peter Graves appears by permission of Herbert Wilcox; Howell Glynne, of the General Administrator of Covent Garden Opera Trust; Marion Studholme and Charles Mackerras appear by permission of the Governors of Sadler's Wells; Isabel Bigley is appearing in "Oklahoma!")
