2/2. Veteran cinema critic Barry Norman explores film music from the composer's standpoint. This concluding part looks at Hollywood, with segments on the early talkies, big emotive theme-based scores - including those by Max Steiner (Gone with the Wind, 1939) and Maurice Jarre (Doctor Zhivago, 1965) - and the now-standard use of pop tracks (Saturday Night
Fever, 1977). He also analyses the works of Elmer Bernstein, Philip Glass, John Williams, George Fenton, Hans Zimmer and Bernard Herrmann, who is best known for his masterful collaborations with Alfred Hitchcock.
