Trumpeter and broadcaster Guy Barker pays tribute to pioneering composer, arranger and musician Antonio Carlos Jobim (1927-94), who has been referred to as "the Gershwin of Brazil" and was instrumental in creating the bossa nova sound. He and poet Vinicius de Moraes were behind the genre's two most popular hits - Desafinado (Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd ) and The Girl from Ipanema (Stan Getz and Astrud Gilberto ). This episode recalls Jobim's golden era - the 1960s - when his international standing hit its peak, marked by his move to America and his collaboration with Frank Sinatra.
