To coincide with Dusty
Springfield's induction into the UK Music Hall of Fame,
Paul Sexton celebrates her 1968
American soul-inspired work, Dusty in Memphis. Released in January 1969, the 33-minute LP signalled a radical stylistic change for the singer, and initially failed to make much of a critical or commercial impact despite the album's UK/US top ten hit Son of a Preacher Man. The disc is now regarded as something quite special, as put forward tonight by its co-producer Jerry Wexler (now 89), studio engineer Gary Moore and former manager Vicki Wickham. And there's archive input from Dusty not previously aired in the UK. Producer Paul Sexton
