Stuart Maconie presents a full-blown concert featuring the Pet Shop Boys
(Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe), recorded on 8 May at London's Mermaid
Theatre. Exploiting the orchestral layerings of their melancholic synth-pop sound, Britain's premier chart duo perform alongside the BBC Concert Orchestra, conducted by Nick Ingman, and a troupe of music luminaries, including studio masters Anne Dudley and Trevor Horn, who has produced their latest album. Rufus Wainwright and Robbie Williams perform a Pet Shop Boys song each, and Tennant and Lowe discuss their craft, which has given the canon West End Girls, It's a Sin, What Have I Done to Deserve This?, Rent, Heart, Being Boring and dozens of other gems.
