New series1/4. Mark Lamarr presents an in-depth profile of R&B/soul/funk legend
James Brown to mark the 50th anniversary of his studio recording of Please Please Please. Brown has amassed a fortune in chart hits since 1956 with a vast repertoire that includes the 1958 R&B number one Try Me, the 1960s crossover classics Papa's Got a Brand New Bag Part One, I Got You (I Feel Good), It's a Man's Man's Man's World, Cold Sweat - Part One and Say It Loud - I'm Black and I'm Proud (Part One) and, perhaps most famously, the 1970 hit Get Up I Feel Like Being Like a Sex Machine (Part One). The series features rare material and explores rap and hip-hop's debt to Brown, who provides extensive input. Producer Paul Sexton
