As part of a two-day Proms residency, Daniel Barenboim's West-Eastern Divan Orchestra performs a concert in which it revisits its roots in Weimar and the poetry of Goethe. Franz Liszt led music in Weimar for a decade in the mid-19th century, and Barenboim conducts one of his ground-breaking symphonic poems alongside a masterpiece by a composer he controversially championed - Wagner.

In 1999, Israeli conductor Daniel Barenboim and Palestinian cultural historian Edward Said created the West-Eastern Divan youth orchestra, comprising Arab and Israeli musicians, which now celebrates its tenth birthday with a two-day Proms residency. Presented by Sara Mohr-Pietsch live from the Royal Albert Hall in London.

James Jolly explores the troubled history of the ophicleide, one of the most idiosyncratic brass instruments ever invented. From the Greek Ophis - a serpent and Kleis - the ophicleide became popular in military bands in the late 19th century, and was utilised by Berlioz and Mendelssohn in works such as Symphonie fantastique and Midsummer Night's Dream.
 
Now enjoying a revival in orchestras seeking a historically accurate approach, it still divides the opinions of two Berlioz interpreters, Colin Davis and John Eliot Gardiner. Would they have it in their orchestra? With contributions and demonstrations from ophicleidists Tony George and Stephen Wick.

Michael Bracewell immerses himself in the febrile atmosphere of our art schools to discover the sources of the students' inspiration. In a world flooded with visual imagery, today's fine art students are bombarded with stimuli from all sides and can struggle to find their own creative path. Bracewell hears how they wrestle with their artistic ambitions and uses their work to assess the likely future of contemporary art in this country.

He also talks to one of Goldsmith College's most high-profile alumni, Damien Hirst, who reveals how deconstructing a tomato plant with fellow students inspired him to approach art in a different way.
