The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment perform works written by Vivaldi.

All of the works in this programme were written by Vivaldi for the church of Santa Maria de La Pieta in Venice. Here they are performed by the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.

All of the works in this programme were written for the church of Santa Maria de La Pieta in Venice, where Vivaldi taught, and with specific performers in mind, the foundling girls of the Pieta. During Vivaldi's lifetime, these famous girls were celebrated as one of Europe's finest collections of musicians.

In this concert at St John's Smith Square, the perfect location in which to recreate the musical space of the old Pieta, one of Britain's finest period orchestras replaces the girls.

In the 1950s and 1960s, St Pancras, like many Victorian masterpieces, was reviled by modernists, but the efforts of poet John Betjeman saved it from despoilment. Now the station is set to be Europe's gateway to Britain, so is this re-opening the grand finale of the rehabilitation of Victorian buildings?

Matthew also talks to the directors of A Crude Awakening, a controversial new documentary which argues that the world must confront the fact that we're running out of oil.
