Steven Connor considers air. It is more than a universal physical necessity: the ideas of air and breath are diffused through the poetry, rituals and symbolism of all cultures. We not only live on air, we also subsist on the complex idea of air. Medical historians, classicists, air-therapists, and musicians help to explore three aspects of the air: its positive associations with power; its negative associations with corruption; and the idea of the air as a medium or habitat.

Meshell Ndegeocello's Spirit Music Sextet Jez Nelson presents an exclusive session with American singer and bassist Meshell
Ndegeocello's Spirit Music Sextet. Though she is best known for her work in funk and hip-hop, Ndegeocello's most recent album has veered into instrumental jazz, collaborating among others with Jack De Johnette and Kenny Garrett. Joining her in this line-up of the Spirit Music Sextet are Chris Dave on drums and saxophonist Ron Blake. And Jez Nelson selects the best of the new jazz releases on CD.
