Aldeburgh Festival: The to Passion
Humphrey Burton presents one of the highlights of this year's Aldeburgh Festival: the new chamber music theatre piece by Harrison Birtwistle , who turns 70 next month. The lo Passion, for string quartet, clarinet and six performers, to a text by Stephen Plaice , combines Magritte-type imagery, ritual and myth, and a powerful score exploring the darker side of sexual obsession. The Almeida Opera production is directed at the Snape Maltings, Suffolk, by Stephen Langridge.
