This year marks the 200th anniversary of Haydn's oratorio The Seasons, with its libretto based on James Thomson 's pastoral epic of 1726-8. Haydn paints a picture of a year in the life of a small rural community, with reflections on the weather and on those key periods in the country year such as sowing, tilling and harvest.
