Composer of the Week (9.00am R3), introduced by the knowledgeable and eloquent Donald Macleod, is Verdi in Paris. The French made heavy demands on Verdi as a composer, but they also stimulated him to create some of his greatest work, most notably his superb operas Don Carlos and the Sicilian Vespers. Pavarotti, Alagna and Carreras illustrate their splendours. SG
