4: Fishing the Sky. At the Xixuau reserve, on the banks of the river, thoughts turn to food. A night-fishing trip under the southern stars hauls in piranha and rainbow bass, and a foray through the reserve's plantation to gather bananas and manioc leads to a nest of fire ants.

The gypsy-inspired swirlings of the slow movement of Brahms's Clarinet Quintet are a wonderful instance of a composer transforming folk music into classical form. The autumnal glow of this great chamber work will be ideally suited to the period instruments of the outstanding ensemble Hausmusik and will contrast with the bubbling high spirits and infectious enthusiasm of Mendelssohn's String Octet in this late-night Prom from the Royal Albert Hall. Hausmusik
Brahms Clarinet Quintet in B minor, Op 115
Mendelssohn String Octet in E flat, Op 20
