The gypsy-inspired swirlings of the slow movement of Brahms's Clarinet Quintet are a wonderful instance of a composer transforming folk music into classical form. The autumnal glow of this great chamber work will be ideally suited to the period instruments of the outstanding ensemble Hausmusik and will contrast with the bubbling high spirits and infectious enthusiasm of Mendelssohn's String Octet in this late-night Prom from the Royal Albert Hall.
