Artist David Hockney takes Judith Bumpus on his famous drive through the Santa Monica mountains in California at sunset - to the strains of Wagner blaring magnificently from his car stereo. On the way, he talks about the nature of the landscape which suggests special moments in Wagner's dramatic score. "I think the music makes you see more, and what you see makes you hear more," says Hockney, who compares the fusion of aural and visual spectacle to the way he conceives his opera sets.
