A profile of the novelist Aldous Huxley. Bright satirist of the brittle 20s turned prophetic critic of twentieth-century progress, Huxley spanned the period from First World War despair to mid-century mystic salvationism.
Dr Valentine Cunningham , Fellow in English Literature at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, considers some of the contradictions in a man whose interests covered literature, science, religion and politics. With contributions from Sybille Bedford, Lord Jenkins, Sir Stephen Spender , Gavin Ewart , Julian Symons and Professor Lewis Wolpert , and archive recordings of Huxley, his brother Julian and contemporaries.
