Handel's oratorio setting of words by Thomas Morell. For 18 years, the Israelites have suffered under the rule of the tyrannical Ammonites. In a desperate battle to regain their freedom, they elect as their leader Jephtha, who vows that if God gives him victory he will sacrifice
"whoever shall first salute mine eyes". At his victory celebration this proves to be his daughter Iphis. (bass) (tenor) (alto) (countertenor)
