In the third of eight programmes about American record producer George Avakian, he talks to Ian Carr about his work with composer, band leader and pianist Duke Ellington, whom he first recorded in the early 1950s, nearly 15 years after their first meeting. Studio sessions included the Liberian Suite, and The Mooche with Russell Procope and Jimmy Hamilton. Then, there was the tremendous Newport Jazz Festival.
