A portrait of Darius Milhaud , in celebration of the centenary of his birth. Christopher Palmer traces the life and music of the prolific composer whose music ranges from the South American colour of Le Boeuf sur le Toit to the jazz-inspired ballet La Creation du Monde and epic operas like Christoph Colomb. The programme recalls his childhood in Aix, 1920s Paris and "Les Six", and the later years in America. Including an interview with Milhaud's widow Madeleine, BBC archive recordings of Milhaud talking, readings from the autobiography and excerpts from his music. Producer Philip Tagney
