BBC Symphony Orchestra conductor Gunter Wand
Bruckner Symphony No 8 in C minor
Bruckner completed his
Eighth Symphony in 1887, at the age of 63. As with the First Symphony, he substantially revised the score in response to criticism, and the work was finally performed five years later. At long last, Bruckner had the satisfaction of a Viennese triumph. "This symphony is the creation of a giant and excels every other symphony of the Master in its spiritual dimensions, richness and greatness," enthused Hugo Wolf.
