Injuly 1841, the poetjohn Clare escaped from a lunatic asylum in Epping
Forest and walked home to
Northamptonshire. He thought he was returning to his first sweetheart

During the 60s, the Lighthouse Cafe near Los Angeles became an important centre for innovative jazz, thanks to the resident group, the Lighthouse All Stars, led by Howard Rumsey. This summer, past members of the All Stars regrouped for a European tour.
Alyn Shipton introduces a recording of a concert they gave as part of the Birmingham Jazz Festival. The group included Shorty Rogers and Conte Candoli (trumpets), Bud Shank , Bob Cooper and Bill Perkins (saxophones),
Pete Jolly (piano), Monty
Budwig (bass) and Larance Marable (drums).
