CITY OF BIRMINGHAM SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA conducted by SIMON RATTLE Schoenberg's massive song-cycle sets poems by the Danish poet JENS PETER JACOBSON. They describe the legend of the 12th century King Waldemar of Denmark, and his illicit love for a young girl, Tove, who lives in Gurre Castle. Waldemar's wife is jealous and has Tove murdered. After his own death, Waldemar's ghost searches for Tove in a wild hunt. (sung in German) (soprano) (tenor) (tenor) (bass)
