Elaine Padmore introduces the first performance, recorded at the Vienna State Opera in 1971. In von Einem's fourth opera, the multi-millionairess Claire Zachanassian exacts a terrible revenge from her native town and her first seducer.
The action takes place in the little town of Giillen in the present day.
