by ANTON CHEKHOV translated by NICHOLAS BETHELL
It is late at night on the stage ot a provincial theatre: the performance has finished and the audience long gone home ... Chekhov's one-act play was written in 1886 as a virtuoso piece for a great actor, and so it still is. This production was recorded in 1965, only a year before the death of its star.
