(The Fable of the Changeling Son)
Opera in three acts
Music by Gian Fransesco Malipiero. Libretto by LUIGI PIRANDELLO (sung in Italian)
Pirandello devised this libretto at Malipiero's request. It is a kind of political allegory in which a commoner-child, brought up as heir to the throne while the true heir for whom he was changed lives the life of a common man, rejects his artificial background and returns to the 'carnal warmth' of his mother.
