Osip Mandclslam (1891-1938) Programme compiled by JAMES GREENE from his translations of Mandelstam's poems.

In 1934 Mandelstam was exiled to Voronezh for having written a poem In which he called Stalin a murderer of peasants'. He was re-arrested in Moscow in 1938. He died soon after in a transit camp Russian reader
