A dramatisation of PUSHKIN'S poetic novel, with music by PROKOFIEV
Written in 1936 for the Pushkin centenary celebrations, Prokofiev's score was withdrawn after Droduction difficulties. A Russian edition was published in 1973 with a drastically revised dramatic format but without three apparently lost numbers. These were relocated in 1978 and have been orchestrated by Edward Downes. This production recreated the score for the first time. Adapted by IAN COTTERELL and CLIVE BENNETT from the translation by SIR CHARLES JOHNSTON
