This new production of Ibsen's play celebrates the centenary of its world premiere at the Royal Theatre, Copenhagen, on 21 December 1879. Its message that marriage is not sacrosanct, that man's authority in his home should not go un-challenged, and that the prime duty of anyone is to find out who he or she really is and to become that person, is almost as explosive today as it was a hundred years ago.
