Between his posts at Weimar and Leipzig, Bach spent some six years (from 1717-1723) as court composer at Cothen; his main task there was not to write music for the church, but to provide orchestral, solo instrumental and chamber works for the fine body of musicians newly assembled by his employer Prince Leopold. This week's programmes concentrate on the music of these Cothen years.
