The Masses and Motets Josquin was the most outstanding of the long line of ' Netherlands ' composers of the 15th century. This ' Prince of Musicians ' brought to perfection almost all the available forms, but it is in his masses and more particularly his motets that his mastery of early Renaissance polyphony is most clearly shown. Earlier this summer the Yale Center for British Art was officially inaugurated at New Haven, Connecticut. In this report Philip French talks about the nature of the Center and discusses its role with the American director, Edmund Pillsbury , and his two British assistants, Malcolm Cormack , Curator of Painting's, and Andrew Wilton , Curator of Prints and Drawings.
Roy Eldridge is one of the great innovators of jazz trumpet playing, occupying the vital historical role that connects Louis Armstrong with Dizzy Gillespie. He talks to Charles Fox about half a century spent playing jazz - in Harlem clubs, touring with Jazz at the Philharmonic, and leading many groups of his own. He also reminisces about his associations with the saxophonists Chu Berry and Coleman Hawkins , and the recordings he made with Billie Holiday and Mildred Bailey.
