Libretto by TEMISTOCLE SOLERA Music by Verdi His first opera, begun when he was 21 in 1834. The action takes place in and around the castle of Ezzelino in the year 1228, and hinges on one of those father/daughter complexes which reappear often in later Verdi operas.
