The first in a series of operas with a Turkish or Oriental flavour about them. In Gluck's opera the Cadi is tired of his wife and is intent on seeking his pleasure elsewhere. But the beautiful Zelmire - who has already scorned the Cadi's advances, is equally determined to see that he behaves himself, even if she has to resort to a trick.
