Rienzit Opera in five acts (sung in German)
Rienzi was not only Wagner's first successful opera but probably the most frequently performed during his lifetime. It is also his longest and most spectacular. Even before the premiere in 1842, Wagner was forced to cut it. but today's performance gives the work complete for the first time ever. Since the autograph score given to Adolf Hitler in 1939 has been lost, EDWARD DOWNES and ERNEST WARBURTON have had to restore the orchestration of nearly 2.000 bars.
