John Balaban discusses his Vietnam poems with ROBIN HOLMES.
As a conscientious objector working among the Vietnamese, JOHN BALABAN was able to see and record a subtle and complex civilisation unnoticed by the cameras. The programme includes readings of his own poems, his translations of traditional lyrics and his recordings of the Vietnamese singers themselves.
