The Amadeus Quartet
'Normally a quartet, being a sealed unit, focus their interpretation to a central point and the audience listen in. But the Amadeus Quartet create their music in a great centre of musicianship and throw it out in an extrovert way. So the audience are not listening in, but having the music thrown around them.'
In April this year,
Peter Schidlof , Norbet Brainin , Siegmund Nissel and Martin Lovett were joined by the cellist Robert Cohen to record Schubert's String Quintet.
Tragically, it was to be the quartet's last recording, as Peter Schidlof died in August. After the sessions the five musicians talked to
Christopher Cook about
Schubert, their playing, and themselves.
