When is the best time to go ski-ing? I've never been ski-ing before: will I have to buy equipment and skiwear before I go, or can I hire them at the resort? Is a ski-ing holiday inevitably expensive? My wife and I have two young children: how do I choose the best resort for a family ski-ing holiday? Where will I find an exciting night life as well as good snow? Canal were British. There was keen competition for this highly-skilled work: the hours might be long and arduous but home and family were comfortably situated just beside the Canal and everything was provided, from social life at the Club to nine holes of golf in the sand.
June Knox-Mawer talks to the former pilots and their families and recreates this little-known world which abruptly came to an end 25 years ago.
