The tea dance almost disappeared with the decline in popularity of ballroom dancing and the emergence of rock and pop in the early 1950s, but recently there has been a demand for its return. Once again it is possible to dance to the music of the ' big band ' and take tea in elegant surroundings such as the Café de Paris. Monty Modlyn talks to tea dancers up and down the country, and his observations make a significant reflection on life in Britain in 1981. Producer MARLENE PEASE
