The first gorillas in European zoos were fed sausages, boiled potatoes and beer. They died. But now, research is revealing that (apart from eating habits!) gorillas are man's closest relatives in the animal kingdom. A symposium was recently held in the Gabon, homeland of the lowland gorilla, to assess current knowledge of these animals.
