The Year of the Planets
During 1979 all the planets between Venus and Saturn will have been examined at close range by spacecraft from
Earth providing us with higher resolution pictures than ever before. What have the pictures told scientists so far? The first sputnik was launched in 1957 - now there are an estimated 5,000 satellites orbiting the Earth for communications, for navigation, for weather forecasting, and for intelli, gence purposes. How do these various satellites work? What developments can we expect in the next ten years?
In the studio to answer your questions on space exploration and current knowledge of the solar system is Dr Garry Hunt , who is at present working with NASA on the Viking mission to Mars and the Voyager mission to Jupiter and Saturn. In the chair
