Christianity and the World Order
5: Not Peace, but a Sword The Rev Dr Edward Norman. Dean of Peterhouse, Cambridge, takes the view that modern Christian leaders are all tolerance when it comes to departures from traditional religious doctrine. But they are ferocious when it comes to departures from the canons of political liberalism over such issues as majority rule in South Africa. Does the preoccupation of Christian liberals with racism in South Africa tend to destroy one system with little prospect of establishing a satisfactory alternative?

Trading Our Future Presented by John Eidinow
The Bonn Summit in July set a mid-December deadline for the completion of the most complex international trade negotiations ever held so far. Initiated five years ago, the ' Tokyo Round ' at Gatt Headquarters in Geneva, could set the pattern for world trade in the 1980s. How much free trade can we afford? Can growing protectionist pressures be resisted? Is there a serious threat of a trade war? What would be the economic and political rewards, or costs of success or failure?

Sir John Gielgud in the sixth of 11 programmes. talks to JOHN MILLER about his life in the theatre. 6: Time for Everything
' I think the English are so good at practical jokes. or they used to be - of course, the Edwardians were mad about practical jokes. My mother once told me that W. S. Gilbert , who was supposed to be such a funny man, took them on his yacht and tied all their pigtails to 'he chairs and then said, " Look at that shark ' and they all jumped up from their chairs and were nearly decapitated, which I don' think is funny at all, but it rather goes in the same mood of Edward VII and Queen Alexandra playing clumps and all those ridiculous things they did in those country houses in Edwardian times.'
