David Simmons, using his own and rare commercial recordings from Africa, Cuba, Haiti, the Caribbean and the United States, follows a musical and personal trail across three continents. It's a trail of detection, unravelling a tangled knot of styles and influences of cultural and political backgrounds, to discover the rhythmic threads that led to the Latin 'craze' in America and recrossed the Atlantic to become in Britain, both staple diet for such innocuous entertainment as Come Dancing and later a driving force for the restless dynamics of today's disco scene.
