When she was 15 Rita Hunter performed in working men's clubs on Merseyside to pay for singing lessons. Now, 20 years later, she has achieved one of the greatest operatic triumphs, an invitation to sing at the New York Metropolitan Opera: the first English Briinnhilde in the history of the Met.
In this programme RITA HUNTER and her relatives and friends, including MARTINA ARROYO , AL-BERTO REMEDIOS and DAME EVA TURNER , talk about her climb to the top. through long years in the chorus, to her recent successes with the Sadler's Wells Opera at the London Coliseum and the big international career which is just beginning.
