Brent Schools - Hard Left Rules
Ever since a head teacher was suspended on suspicion of having made a racist remark, the London Borough of Brent has been a major political football. The teacher - Maureen McGoldrick - had a proven anti-racist record. Labour leader Neil Kinnock fears that sort of action from hard-left councils like Brent could cost the party the next election. But, as Panorama reports, Brent is pursuing its radical anti-racist policy with renewed vigour.
Maureen McGoldrick is not the only teacher committed to multi-cultural education to have been investigated by a group of council officers.
Brent says they are education advisers. The critics call them the 'thought police'. Reporter John Ware Producer PETER CERESOLE Editor DAVID DICKINSON

It was 25 years ago that the novelist and television sitcom writer Peter Tinniswood first arrived in Sheffield as a young reporter. So began his love affair with the city on which he was to draw for so much of his fiction and fun about the Brandon family and Uncle Mort in the television series "I Didn't Know You Cared". The writer himself enters the fantasy world of the Brandons and, with two of his characters, travels back to the city of his imagination.
