Harry Carpenter introduces another of the year's memorable moments.
The Open Championship British golf has not seen a home victory since 1969 - the year Tony Jacklin won the Open Championship.
1985 was to change all that - Sandy Lyle , a gently unassuming man of enormous strength, was to be the man to do it.
At Sandwich in Kent, Sandy was to face a field of the world's best golfers and prove what so many had doubted he could become - the world's champion golfer. Assistant proaucers MURRAY NEEDHAM and BARBARA SLATER

The second of four films for the festive season from the master of suspense, tonight starring Cary Grant, Joan Fontaine

Sensitive society girl Lina McLaidlaw marries popular man-about-town Johnnie Aysgarth. At first they are happy but, when she discovers he is an embezzler and perhaps a murderer, she begins to fear for her own life. This was the first film that Grant made with Hitchcock and it provided him with one of his finest roles. Equally memorable is Joan Fontaine, who won an Academy Award for her performance as Lina.
(The next Hitchcock film is "Under Capricorn" tomorrow at 2.10pm on BBC2)
