from Limavady
The district of Limavady in Northern Ireland is no stranger to the headlines. Three years ago a terrorist bomb exploded in the Drop in Well disco, killing 17 people.
One year later, when the local Presbyterian minister, The Rev David Armstrong , crossed the road to exchange Christmas greetings with the local Roman Catholic priest, Fr Kevin Mullan , and his congregation, there was a local outcry. Paul Jones visits the town and the district to discover a side of the community that is rarely reported: people who reflect the reconciling love of neighbour for neighbour, and who come together across barriers of mistrust to sing their Advent Songs of Praise. Do You Sincerely Want to Live Forever?
'I would think that by the end of the century we would be living to 150-200 years. I think that is a conservative estimate.' (ROY WALFORD , md,
Professor of Pathology,
University of California)
The quest for immortality is mankind's oldest dream. Now some scientists believe they are close to understanding why we grow old, and how to slow, or even stop the ageing process. In America this research has spawned the Life Extension movement, whose members follow special diets and consume large quantities of anti-ageing drugs in the hope of living for a very long time.
Everyman has been to
America to film the leaders of the Life Extension movement and to examine the scientific evidence behind their claims, and the moral implications of the attempt.
